Dharma Studio Meditation Series: In the Body

In the meditative traditions of Buddhism, direct experience, unmediated by concepts, is held to be the primary, and most important kind of knowing.  For us as Westerners, it’s often easy to get stuck in our heads, and difficult to shift to non conceptual, embodied awareness.  The meditations in the Dharma Studio for the next month are designed to develop our ability to do this, with a shift to guided, somatic or embodied ways of practicing meditation. 

Please join us as you are able for these weekly practices.  All meditations are free and open to the public.  Dress comfortably, and if the weather is at all cool, bring a light blanket if you can.  Some meditations are done lying down, as noted. Directions to the Dharma Studio below.

Meditation schedule*

Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 pm

The Dharma Studio opens at 5:30. 

*If I am unable to come for any reason, Fa Yun/ Jake Luker will lead a silent seated meditation that day.

June 23                Guided Body Meditation                           

A deep shift in awareness to the physical body.  This practice helps deepen and ground our sitting practice.  This meditation will be done lying down.  If weather is at all cool, bring a light blanket.

June 30

Guided Body Meditation done sitting up,  with a  walking meditation in the middle. 

July 7

Guided Earth Descent Meditation, done lying down, then sitting up.  If it’s at all cool, bring a light blanket. 

July 14

Threefold Breathing, Guided meditation done lying down and sitting up. 

 

The Dharma Studio is at Suite 340, 1159 Godfrey.  At the corner of Hall and Godfrey.  Please enter at the loading docks behind the building, off Hall St.  Come down the hall to the stairs, go up one flight, and come down the hall to the end.
